Eight Principles of Quality Management

The guiding principles of ISO 9001, the most used quality standard in the world, is based on what are defined as The Eight Principles of Quality Management. These principles are established by ISO, the International Organization for Standardization.

Developed from the knowledge and experience of a team of international quality management experts who are part of the ISO Technical Committee, ISO 9001 provides organizations with an operational framework to create processes and procedures to ensure they are meeting the needs of customers, stakeholders and adhering to the statutory and regulatory requirements of the industry.

Streamline Industries, following the guidelines outlined in the ISO 9001/2000 standard, has been providing the highest quality machining services and custom manufacturing of specialized equipment for more than three decades.

Here is a brief explanation of the Eight Principles of Quality Management.

Principle #1 – Focus on customers

Without customers, an organization has no purpose. Companies should maintain a clear understanding of current and future customer needs. Successful organizations are constantly working to meet the needs of their customers and strive to exceed their expectations.

At Streamline Industries, we have always believed that our commitment to quality should be apparent from moment we first contact a customer or prospect.

Principle #2 – Leadership matters

The direction, values and sense of purpose is established by the leaders of an organization. Leaders must be committed to creating an environment where every employee is informed, involved and encouraged to help achieve the organization’s objectives.

Principle 3 – Involvement of people

People at all levels should be involved in the operation of the organization and should be respected as individuals. This creates a group of motivated, creative and committed people whose abilities can be fully used for the organization’s benefit.

Principle 4 – Develop a process-oriented approach

When activities and related resources are managed together as a process, results can be obtained more efficiently. Establishing a process allows organizations to better identify inefficiencies, make improvements and experience more consistent, predictable results.

Principle 5 – Use a system approach to management

By identifying, understanding and then managing interrelated processes as a system, organizations can focus on these processes to better align them to achieve the desired outcomes. This will help the organization to improve its overall effectiveness and how efficiently it can accomplish its objectives.

At Streamline Industries, we believe that quality and safety go hand in hand – you simply cannot have one without the other.

Principle 6 – Continual improvement as a permanent objective

Maintaining an environment where the continual improvement of the organization’s overall performance is a permanent objective not only improves the capabilities of the organization, it also creates better alignment towards a common objective. A commitment to continual improvement also allows organizations to react quicker to change.

Our on-site Quality Lab at Streamline Industries features state-of-the-art inspection equipment that is calibrated and verified regularly to ensure maximum accuracy. Additionally, our entire quality system is regularly audited and continuously improved to assure that we provide customers with a comprehensive system that aligns with current ISO guidelines.

Principle 7 – Factual approach to decision making

Effective decision making requires the analysis of data and information, balanced with experience and intuition. Demonstrating the effectiveness of past decisions by referencing recorded facts reaffirms the specific choices that were made previously.

Principle 8 – Mutually beneficial supplier relationships

When an organization and its suppliers are interdependent on one another, a mutually beneficial relationship strengthens both and allows each to adapt to changing market conditions, and optimize costs and other resources when appropriate.
